Teacher Policy
Our Teaching Philosophy
At Little Maestros, we believe the teacher is a co-creator of the learning environment. Teachers
guide, inspire, and reflect the spirit of the school through music, movement, and mindful care.
The goal is not just to teach, but to awaken imagination, build emotional intelligence, and foster
lifelong joy in learning.
Professional Conduct & Communication
Teachers must maintain professionalism in tone and manner at all times—whether
communicating with colleagues, parents, or students.
During school hours and in the presence of children, colleagues are to be addressed
respectfully using “Mr.” or “Ms.” followed by their first name (e.g., Ms. Priya).
First names may be used casually in informal, staff-only settings.
Staff are expected to uphold a collegial, courteous environment, modelling
collaboration, clarity, and kindness.
Gossip, dismissive behaviour, or informal chatter during child-contact time is not
permitted.
Leave Policy
Planned & Emergency Leave
● Teachers are eligible for 10 casual leave days per academic year, pro-rated for
mid-year joiners.
● In case of emergency leave, the teacher must inform the school no later than 6:30 AM
on the same day via phone and follow up with written communication.
Impact of Leave
● Due to the instructional nature of our program, frequent or unplanned leaves must
be avoided, as they disrupt child routines and place undue burden on fellow staff.
● Repeated absenteeism without valid reason may lead to a review by the Academic
Coordinator.
Acceptable Leave Reasons
● Personal or family medical emergency
● Bereavement
● Pre-scheduled medical appointments (with advance notice)
● Significant family obligations (upon approval)
● Unacceptable Leave Reasons
● Non-essential travel or social obligations during term time
● Last-minute personal errands
Non-emergency leaves during event or assessment periods
Lesson Planning & Readiness
● Teachers must submit weekly lesson plans in advance to the Coordinator by the
assigned deadline.
● Plans must align with curriculum goals and include clear objectives for music,
movement, and early years learning domains.
● Teachers are expected to arrive 30 minutes before the start of the day to set up
learning spaces and review materials.
Mandatory Reporting & Child Safeguarding
Responsibility to Report
● Teachers are responsible for observing and identifying signs of distress, abuse
(physical, emotional, or verbal), neglect, or unusual behaviour in children.
● All such observations must be reported immediately to the Child Safeguarding
Officer.
Reporting Oneself
● If a teacher finds themselves in a situation that may violate any safeguarding policy
(e.g., being alone in a room with a child, accidental contact, or an unverified interaction),
they are required to report the situation immediately to the Safeguarding Officer.
Training & Awareness
● All teachers will undergo annual safeguarding and first aid training. Compliance is
mandatory to maintain active classroom status.
Notice Period & Resignation
● Teachers are expected to complete the full academic year unless there are
unavoidable circumstances.
● Resignation can only be submitted at the end of the academic year, and must be
accompanied by a minimum of three months’ notice in writing.
● Early exit or breach of notice period may impact future reference letters or hiring
recommendations.
