Child safeguarding policy
Safeguarding children is our highest responsibility. Every child has the right to feel safe, respected and protected, physically, emotionally and psychologically, at all times.
Core safeguarding measures
Background checks
- All teachers and support staff undergo thorough background verification at hiring.
- This includes police verification, identity proof, references from previous employers and a declaration of any criminal record.
CCTV surveillance
- All common areas, entry and exit points, corridors and classroom entrances are covered by 24/7 CCTV.
- Footage is stored securely and reviewed regularly for safety audits.
- Cameras are not installed in changing areas or toilets, to respect privacy.
Two-adult policy
A child is never left alone with one adult behind closed doors. At least two adults must be present when working with children in enclosed spaces.
Staff training & readiness
CPR and emergency response
- All teaching and support staff are trained annually in child CPR, basic first aid and choking response.
- CPR certification is mandatory for classroom teachers and renewed on schedule.
Safeguarding orientation
Every staff member receives safeguarding orientation on joining and refresher sessions twice a year, covering signs of physical, emotional or verbal abuse, appropriate and inappropriate contact, responding calmly to distress and disclosures, and reporting obligations.
The safeguarding team
Child Safeguarding Officer (CSO): the designated authority for reports, concerns or breaches related to child safety. All observations, incidents or doubts must be brought to the CSO, verbally and in writing, within 24 hours.
Safeguarding Lead (SL): supports the CSO, maintains training records, monitors compliance and ensures corrective action. In the CSO's absence, the SL is the point of contact. Their details are displayed in every classroom and staff room.
Reporting expectations
Staff must report immediately if they observe an unexplained injury or change in behaviour, suspect abuse or neglect, witness any inappropriate adult–child or child–child interaction, or find themselves in a situation that could be misinterpreted. Staff who accidentally breach protocol must self-report at once. Concerns raised in good faith are handled confidentially and without fear of retaliation.
Physical environment & safety aids
- Classrooms are child-proofed with rounded edges, covered sockets and age-appropriate materials.
- First-aid kits are kept in every room and checked weekly.
- Anti-choking devices are stationed at key points.
- Fire safety drills are held monthly, with children gently trained in evacuation.
Confidentiality & parents
Parents are kept informed of any injuries, behavioural concerns or emotional distress. Safeguarding records are confidential and accessible only to authorised staff. In serious cases, external authorities may be contacted, following legal guidelines.
